Real Madrid’s star winger Vinicius Jr is on the cusp of creating history ahead of the second leg of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) semi-final clash against Manchester City on Wednesday.

The Brazilian could become the first player to contribute to a goal in 12 consecutive starts in the competition tonight.

Earlier, Real Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti said that his side are keen on winning a record-extending 15th European Cup title.

The first leg in Spain ended in a 1-1 draw where Madrid edged ahead through a brilliant Vinicius Jr goal, but City's Kevin De Bruyne equalised in the second half with a spectacular shot.

"Quality alone is not enough to face games like this, you need to have other things," Ancelotti told a news conference on Tuesday.

"It's not easy to explain (Real's recipe for success), but I think the Champions League is special for Real Madrid because of the history. It's the first five European Cups Real won and how that history still lives today."

The Italian also believed that the second leg will be another close game like last week.

"Tomorrow won't be that different from the first leg," Ancelotti added.

"We want to improve a few things from last week. Man City have the best team in Europe at the moment and it will be exciting.

"But when we value a team, it's everyone, not just one player. We don't just think about Erling Haaland... What about Kevin De Bruyne? What about Ilkay Gundogan? What about Riyad Mahrez? It is difficult.

"What we are clear about is that if they have to score, let it be early. That way we have more time to react."

It must be noted that Real Madrid are winless in their previous four away games against Manchester City in the Champions League, which includes two defeats and as many draws. The only team they have faced more times away from home in the UCL without ever winning is Milan after losing five times in seven matches.
